Angie Parker, Ph.D.
Dean, School of Education
Dr. Angie Parker earned her doctor of philosophy in Curriculum and Instruction at Arizona State University. She also has a master’s
degree — in Distance Learning and Instructional Design — and bachelor’s degree in education from Arizona State. Her
areas of interest include Informational Research Strategies, Educational Applications for the Internet, Educational
Applications of Ed Media, The Connected Classroom, Designing Instructional Material for the Worldwide Web, Action Research
in Education, and the Theory and Practice of E-Learning.
Parker has worked in distance education for twenty-five years and understands the challenges and the joys of
teaching and learning online. Her research has focused on faculty and techniques to make their virtual teaching
careers more productive. Her latest research has focused on intrinsic and extrinsic motivators for instructors
who transition from the traditional classroom to the virtual.
In her initial year and a half at NCU, Parker worked directly with the university's Mentors. She initiated the faculty training (FMD)
process, and assisted in the development of the streamlined hiring process. Parker's professional experience in higher
education includes both academic administration and Curriculum and Instruction, and early in her career she taught at the
K-12 level. This combined experience lends considerable insight into the needs of educators and their constituencies at
all levels.
Dr. Parker enjoys wines from around the world. She has traveled extensively to enhance her knowledge and teaches
both a beginning and an intermediate class on wine.
